A full-day introduction to sustainable spearfishing and foraging - essential for beginners or those looking to build a solid foundation in the sport.

The beginner spearfishing course is designed to give you the skills, confidence, and knowledge to start your journey the right way. Taught by fully qualified freediving instructors with years of experience with spearfishing, you’ll learn everything from safe diving practices to preparing your catch for the table. Along the way, you’ll connect with others who share your passion for the ocean - a great way to find new dive buddies in the local community.

What you’ll learn:

In the water:

  • Safe diving practices and ocean awareness

  • Breath-hold techniques to extend your dives

  • Efficient diving techniques

  • Sustainable spearfishing methods and ethics

  • Target species identification and responsible foraging

On land:

  • Freediving fundamentals and breath-holding

  • Gear setup and equipment advice (gun hire available)

  • Post-catch preparation, including safe handling and filleting

8-9.30am: Freediving for spearfishing

9.30-11am: Spearfishing essentials & gun set-up

11.30-1.30pm: Ocean spear session

2-4pm: Post-dive debrief and fish preparation
