Tide & Breath is a 3-hour introduction to freediving techniques designed specifically for ocean swimmers. This session isn’t about depth - it’s about breath control, relaxation, and learning how to stay calm and efficient in challenging ocean conditions.
If you love the ocean but feel breathless after duck dives, tense in rough conditions, or are curious about breath-holding in a safe, structured way, this session is for you.
Session Outline
Theory: Freediving Skills for Ocean Swimming
The mammalian dive reflex: cold water response and benefits for ocean swimming
Stress, relaxation and heart-rate control
CO₂ vs O₂ and breath-holding
Breathwork, Lung Stretching & Mindfulness
Breathing mechanics (belly, ribs, chest)
Gentle lung and chest flexibility stretches
Guided dry breath-holds & recovery breathing
Pool Session
Static breath-holding
High CO₂ swimming drills
Breath-control and efficiency-based drills

Requirements: Aged 14+ & able to swim at least 200m continuously unassisted
